Red Kite Race 2026

The Red Kite Race, first held in 2015 has evolved over the years, with several course adjustments made in response to ongoing forestry management. This year brings yet another fresh twist to the route. What remains unchanged is the challenge, an uncompromising 10km off‑road trail that winds through the valley's rugged terrain, demanding strength, grit and a taste for adventure.

The Derwent Valley is home to the legendary Red Kite, a commanding bird of prey instantly recognised by its long forked tail, fiery reddish‑brown plumage and sweeping 1.8‑metre wingspan. Out on the trails, runners often feel its presence overhead, gliding effortlessly on the thermals, shadowing those who dare to take on the valley's terrain.

For runners, the Red Kite Race is more than a 10km challenge, it's a chance to test yourself against the valley itself. Every twist of trail, every climb, every stretch of open sky and stream carries the spirit of the Red Kite. This is a race that blends grit with beauty, pushing you through rugged terrain while surrounding you with the wild character of the valley itself. If your looking for a race that feels alive, unpredictable and unforgettable, this is the one for you !
